Artemisia LeFay

Cabaret Resurrectionist, Chanteuse, Composer

About me

Artemisia LeFay, cabaret resurrectionist, chanteuse and composer based in New York City was raised in the audition and dressing rooms of opera productions by her classical musician parents, Artemisia's love affair with the performing arts began at a young age from the opera stages in Italy, Turkey and NYC to her triumphant 2022 Birdland Jazz Theater debut. When she was 18 years old, she was selected in a highly competitive audition process by the Anthony Quinn Foundation to study opera and Italian at the Bel Canto Institute in Firenze, Italy. That same year the Quinn Foundation also singled her out for an additional award, the Richard Carbotti Memorial Scholarship. She has continued her classical singing with the international opera company Teatro Grattacielo since 2022. When Miss LeFay discovered music from the Weimar Era and Berlin, Germany, a spark was ignited and she poured herself into historical research and created a cabaret show Ghosts of Weimar Past. It made its 2019 debut at NYC's cabaret hub Don't Tell Mama, followed by an international debut at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in March 2020. Following the pandemic shut down, Ghosts of Weimar Past made its highly anticipated reappearance back at Don't Tell Mama, soon followed by its Triad Theater debut, and subsequently, Birdland Jazz Theater, as well as other venues in and around New York City. It was nominated for a 2021 Broadway World Cabaret Award for BEST SHOW, and made its Rochester Fringe Festival debut last September to sold-out audiences. Critics have singled out Artemisia as an unique and authentic interpreter of music from the Weimar Era specializing in Kurt Weill, Friedrich Hollaender, Mischa Spoliansky and others. She has performed music of Spoliansky shared to her by his family's archives, songs that have never been heard before in the United States. Her show, Phantoms of the Cabaret, made its Laurie Beechman Theater debut in 2023 to more rave reviews. Her newest show Wasted Girl,  a show of all original compositions, debuted at The Triad Theatre in May 2024, and since has established her as an important and rising new composer and songwriter, with New York critics comparing her to the composers of the The Great American Songbook. Her debut album Wasted Girl will have its release in 2025.

Artemisia has recently been nominated for the 2024 Broadway World Cabaret Awards for Best Show, Best Original Song and Best Vocalist.
